Therapy in Southwest Austin

My office sits in Southwest Austin, on the Southwest Parkway corridor near Travis Country, Sunset Valley, Barton Creek and Oak Hill. If this is your part of town, therapy can fit around the rest of your week: in the office, outdoors, or on screen.

The office on Southwest Parkway

The office is at 5900 Southwest Pkwy, Building 5, Suite 230, Austin, TX 78735, and it is the only office I have. I hold in-person sessions there on Fridays, and some select other times and days as schedules allow. Friday appointments fill first, so if a Friday rhythm matters to you, it is worth asking about early. There is something steadying about the same room and the same chair, week after week. For some of what you may be carrying, that steadiness is part of what makes the work possible.

Mixing the office, the outdoors and video

You do not have to choose one format and stay in it. Some weeks you might come to the office on a Friday; other weeks a walk-and-talk session may fit better, or a telehealth session from home on a week when getting out the door is too much. Walk-and-talk is a full session held outdoors on a quiet route, and we discuss the limits of confidentiality in detail before the first walk. Online therapy across Texas is secure video from a private spot, as long as you are located in Texas during the session.

Sessions are available in English and Spanish, in the office and by telehealth. If Spanish is the language you would rather use, we can work in it from the first session, and the Spanish-language page lays out the details en español. Whichever language and format you choose, you start with the same free consultation, and you can change the mix later as life and weather allow.

What I work with most

Trauma is the primary specialty here, including complex trauma and family-of-origin, sexual, relational, violence and loss-related trauma. Trauma rarely stays in the lane we assign it, and it can sit quietly under other concerns, showing up as anger, numbness or a mind that never rests. Alongside trauma therapy, the work I most want to do more of is betrayal trauma, perfectionism, divorce care, binge eating and anxiety.

Nothing has to be sorted or named before you reach out, and you do not need a diagnosis to start. If you are carrying more than one thing at once, we begin with whatever feels loudest right now and let the rest wait its turn. Beyond those core areas, the work here also includes relationships, family life and the seasons that change everything at once:

  • Couples and family tension, including parenting
  • Grief and loss, including widowhood
  • Pregnancy, postpartum anxiety and mom guilt
  • Teens (a mature 10 and up) and young adults
  • Church hurt and questions of faith

How I work in the room

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor in Texas, with 17 years as a clinician and a private practice in Austin since 2014. Expect warmth and directness in the same hour. I am not a therapist who only nods through a session; if I notice a pattern, I will name it, kindly and clearly. I also do not push into material you are not ready for. You can say no to a topic and nothing bad happens. Safety comes before breakthrough, and the pace belongs to you. The approach page explains the methods underneath this, including a five-minute video on Trauma-Focused CBT.

Weekly sessions or a few focused days

Weekly sessions run 50 to 80 minutes, with time between them to practice and notice what comes up. If momentum keeps getting lost from one week to the next, an intensive offers concentrated time over one to three days instead, with breaks and pacing built in. Neither is better. The guide on weekly therapy or an intensive walks through the difference, and we decide together on the consultation what fits your life right now.

Starting with a free 15-minute call

The first step is small. You send a few lines through the contact form, I review your note, you choose a consultation time, and we talk for 15 minutes about what is bringing you in, whether we are a fit, and how scheduling, cost and format would work. If we go ahead, the initial assessment is 80 minutes and $275. After that, individual sessions are $190 for 50 minutes or $275 for 80 minutes. Sliding scale spots and monthly superbills are explained on the rates page.
